Evelyn Haertig Purses & Books

Paper Cut Silhouette of Lady Holding a Purse

Welcome to the website for Evelyn Haertig’s books.  Evelyn’s speciality was antique combs and purses, but she also collected many other interesting antiques.  She devoted over 30 years to researching the origin, history, preservation, restoration and collecting antique purses.  Her studies resulted in the publication of three exquisite books which are described on this section of this website.

Milton, her husband, worked closely with Evelyn and did most of the photography for the books.  He spent countless hours in the darkroom photographing the examples they had collected for the books.

With their books, studies and presentations, they greatly advanced the importance, appreciation and ART of the antique purse.  The books continue to be used by virtually every major museum research center world wide.

Milton passed away in 2002 and Evelyn in 2007.
This website is dedicated to their memory.
— with love their daughters, Rhett Regina and Laura.
