John B. Hill: “History of Mason, NH, from the First Grant in 1759, to the year, 1858,” Boston: Lucius A. Elliot & Co. 1858, 114 pages.
Includes early provincial history, proprietary history, excerpts from town records, municipal history, church history, records of marriages 1666-1857, records of deaths 1758-1857, (no births), family registers, list of early settlers, Revolutionary War records from Mason soldiers, mortality statistics, lists of town officers, Mason Village and the railroad, ecclesiastical affairs, biographical sketches of prominent citizens of Mason, appendix, very brief & incomplete index, Addendum: Memoir of Rev. Ebenezer Hill, pastor of the Congregational Church in Mason. John B. Hill: “Proceedings at the Centennial Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the town of Mason, NH,” August 1868, originally printed in 1870.
Contains lists of marriages and deaths from Nov 1857-Dec 1868, (no births) and a list of Civil War soldiers supplied from the town and, finally, a list of subscribers toward the expenses of the celebration. No index. 115 pages. This book can be found at most large genealogical libraries.

Elizabeth Orton Jones, editor: “Mason Bicentennial, 1768-1968,” published by the Mason Historical Society.
This charming and delightful little book includes photographs of 18th & 19th C. houses with descriptions of early inhabitants, rosters of military men from WWI & II and other wars, stories of early residents, a timeline of town history, stories of Uncle Sam and more. No index. 205 pages. This book is available from the Mason Historical Society.

The Mason Historical Society has reprinted from the Mason Bicentennial 1768-1968 a 12 page pamphlet entitled “The Story of Uncle Sam” by Elizabeth Orton Jones. Available by mail for $5.00. This includes the postage.

This is a delightful collection of letters, diary excerpts, genealogy and stories of life in the Pratt area of Mason in the early 1900s. This book can be found in the NH Historical Society Library in Concord, NH.

page 513: History of Mason. A brief summary of Mason history.
page 518: History of Greenville.
A summary of Greenville [also known as Mason Village, Mason Harbor and sometimes Souhegan Village (after the river)] which broke away from Mason in 1872. 1880 census population was 1072.

It is a good idea for researchers to check the towns surrounding Mason for vital record information. Many Mason folk married in nearby towns. There are many Mason marriages recorded in Townsend for example. Other nearby towns worth checking: NH: Brookline, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Wilton, Temple, Jaffrey, Milford, Hollis, and Nashua. In MA: Ashby, Ashburnham, Fitchburg, Groton, and Pepperell.
